God building His reputation with my kid

Something cool happened this week. I just wanted to pass it along. Those of you who know my daughter at all know that she is "bent" toward performance. She is VERY dramatic and turns everything possible into a song and dance routine. She's always looking for an audience.

Anyway, she is constantly asking for opportunities to perform. Because she is only 6, her opportunities are limited. There is a local performing arts center we are particularly interested in because of it's reputation and conservative approach to the arts, but you have to be 8 to audition. So McKenna has been living to be 8 just so she can be old enough to audition. Recently she learned that our church is going to have a children's program which she became immediately excited about until she learned you had to be in 2nd grade to audition. She was crushed.

In the car on the way home from church last Sunday she began to lament to me. "Mama, why did God make me want to perform and then nobody give me a chance to do it? I feel like nobody wants me." I reassured her that she was only 6 and had her whole performing life in front of her. I silently prayed that God would give her something to encourage her so she wouldn't give up on her passion so easily. Two years is a long time when you're 6.

Well, two days later we get a phone call from my dear sweet friend Debo. To make a long story short, McKenna was invited to be a part of a production of "The Jungle Book." She had her first rehearsal on Saturday and was totally able to hang with the other kids. She is thrilled to be a flower. I told McKenna about my prayer when she was so frustrated just a couple days before. She told me that she had prayed about it too and was so excited to see God answering her prayer so quickly. It meant a lot to her and it was so affirming in many respects.

It is thrilling to me to see God working in the life of my 6 year old as she is gaining more understanding of who He is and what it means to follow Him. He's building His reputation with her in a personal way already. It's something, I trust, that will grow in her throughout her whole life.
