Last week was our family vacation to Gulf Shores. It's a perfect way to end the summer. Gustav tried to prevent us from going but in the end, God allowed us to enjoy the best beach trip we've had yet. This is the first year the kids really enjoyed the ocean. They all had boogie boards and "rode the waves."

Today was our first day of school. For the boys, this will be their last year of preschool. This year we have Lexi joining our "classroom" for Kindergarten. We always try to make the first day a memorable one. We started at the library and surprised the girls by riding the trolley around Franklin.
We learned map skills and a lot about the city of Franklin from the visitors center. We learned about Tennessee's role in the Civil War, our state symbols, and the history of our flag. The history buff inside me was enthralled and could have listened all day but this was for the kids not me!
Our next stop was lunch at the Mellow Mushroom followed by a gourmet cupcake for desert. We hopped back on the trolley and returned to the library to finish the day. It was another first day to remember and another reason I feel blessed to be homeschooling.

This puts our first day of school to shame! I'll have to remember some of this next year. Thanks for the inspiration - and great beach pics! :)
