Telling Time in Andys and Lauras

We have an interesting method of telling time in our house. Even though McKenna learned how to read a clock last year, grasping the concept of time could be hard to understand. When she would ask, " How long until we leave for ...." she was frustrated to hear "30 minutes" or " 1 hour". It wasn't tangible to her and she didn't get it.. So, I figured out a way to help her understand.

Her favorite shows on TV are "Little House on the Prairie" and "The Andy Griffith Show". As we all know, the first is 1 hour and the latter is 30 minutes. When she would ask, " When are we leaving for church, Mama", the response of "In just 1 Andy" would make much more sense to her and she usually would say " Oh, that's not long at all!"

Well, she does better these days with understanding length of time, but we still tell time in "Andys" and "Lauras" mostly for the boy's sake. It's been one of those cute little family things I don't want to forget, but I know it won't last for long.

We do that, too, only our clock tells time in "Wow, Wow Wubzy", "Wonder Pets" and "High School Musical"! "Wonder Pets" is 15-minute increments so 2 "Wonder Pets" equals 1 "Andy"!!

Bradley still tells time in Magic School Busses, even though he never watches it anymore. It's passed down to Bailey now.

Think our kids watch too much TV?
